I just got one of these drives, and I don't mind the fact that it goes to sleep after doing nothing for a while, but what is a tiny bit annoying is that if I tell Windows to shut down, I can hear the disc spin up, and Windows has to wait for the drive to become ready in order to do whatever it's doing, before the shutdown.

Is there any way to prevent this behaviour?

It's the same for me, so I keep it disconnected until I need to use it (I store photos on it), the power saving features are most likely built into the device and are not adjustable.
