USB4 testers needed

I've got a new cable in my store but I wanted to get real world feedback. Lab testing, it all checked out as expected, but real world use and Lab testing isn't the same as you all know.

Sizes are

0.5m
2m
3m

I know that the longer the cable length, the more the signal can be affected by the cable length. I'm looking to find out just what sort of speeds these can do real world use.

Someone would have to have the equipment to be able to test at least 1 or more of the following options (preference given to those that can test more than 1 option)

A: data transfer rates
B: 8k video (visually give it the Mark One eyeball test)
C: 240W charging speeds

And have some way to measure, at a reasonable standard, the results they get.

Anyone got the hardware to test? It'll be one of each of the cable lengths so I need 3 people :)

@Maccy is getting one and gave me the nod to go ahead and post in here.

Who else can help? You can keep the cable too :)
 
I'd be interested in the 2m cable, but to be perfectly honest my only real use for it is my USB-C NVME enclosure, which is a Sabrent ‎EC-TFNE.

Due to the limited amount of testing, I don't expect to be chosen. But I would happily pay towards a cable and still let you know my findings if you're agreeable.
 
I'm not sure if USB 4 is the same as thunderbolt 4, I believe it's the same, but I'm currently using a Spigen 2m cable to connect an eGPU to my laptop, it also connects to my Rog Ally X if needed. Cuda-Z shows the cable can manage 20,000-27,000 MB/s if I remember correctly.

I can do a comparison if you want?

Yeah sure, if it helps m8 :)

I don't think I have anything that can charge as high as 240W, but I do have a 100W Anker charger that charges a power bank at around 90W.
I think I also have a 120W Xiaomi charger but that's USB A.

First off, I will upgrade my machine with it's damned pesky USB C port! :mad:

Secondly, thanks for the 2m cable, 0.5m cable...and the Haribo! :D

I forgot I have a 5th gen i5 laptop which happens to have a USB C port, along with my second USB C enclosure, an ORICO PWM2-G2. So I tested these, along with my dodgy Sabrent enclosure and my PC with it's shady USB C port / chipset.

Testing with the laptop went absolutely perfectly with both drives and both cables. No files were corrupted at all.

Testing with my 7th gen i5 PC with H270 chipset is where things went south. Now this isn't a fault with your cables, it's something to do with my PC and either the drivers or chipset - but I've always had issues with it, as I'm sure you're aware of by now! Files copied to the Sabrent were fine, but files copied to the ORICO were corrupted. Again, this is my PC and NOT your cables, as I've had this with other cables in the past, and not just the ones from you. As I say, I'm due an upgrade.

The feel of the cables are absolutely spot on, especially the 2m cable which feels chunky and solid - something which really gives you confidence. Maybe the 0.5m cable could have been braided too, but to be honest that's just me being picky.

Now I've used a cable which I know works with my Sabrent drive and PC, but even so it has a tendancy to come loose from the Sabrent's USB C port. I did notice that the 2m cable you supplied felt a little more wiggly in the Sabrent's port. But rotating the connector provided more tension, due to the twist in the cable forcing more of a grip in the USB port, which meant it was much better connectivity wise. Credit where credit is due, I did also notice that the length of your connector is slightly longer than other cables I've tested, which means I have problems connecting my drive sometimes. It could be just that my Sabrent's port is worn, but I'm looking to get rid of it when I upgrade my PC - that enclosure really is the bane of my life sometimes.

Thanks once again for the cables. I did forget about the Haribo from last time, so seeing it was a nice surprise! OcUK, take note - even small orders deserve Haribo. :D

Good to know, I remember from the last time you had the issues with the Sabrent.

2m and 3m were the first production run with braiding. To be used for charging 240W, 8k video and to be more of a cable that you'd find in general use at home...but these are more for 12-18 months in the future "general home use"

The 2m or 3m cable you use NOW to charge your phone, it needs to be sturdy for general day to day use. This was my thinking behind getting the new cables done so that in 12 months time, when 240W charging becomes more mainstream, I'm already set with stock available.

0.5m is more of the "present day" workhorse for specialist data transfer use. It'll not be handled as much as a late 2024 charging cable would be handled.
 
I forgot to say, anyone of you guys got VR headsets? I'd love to see what you think of using one of the cables to link the VR headset to your PC. 2m might not be as handy as the 3m cable for VR though....but it's the option to easily connect VR and PC that I'm interested in.

I think someobdy I know has a VR headset. I'll check with them later on and pass the cable onto them for testing if they have a USB C headset.
