Use a 360 controller to control non-games?

For example, I want to watch a movie on my PC while lying in bed, can I use my 360 controller to change volume and pause/rewind/fast forward/move through playlist? Any way to make it control the mouse?

I guess this is the only think I envy of console users, you can sit back and do everything using a controller whereas I need to be sat at the desk (unless you have a wireless keyboard and mouse)

Is there a way to have it disable automatically when you load up a game? So the game isn't taking input from both the mouse and the controller.

I dont think so. I would just save a blank profile and load that before a game.

Yeah, I just made a blank one and have a button to toggle it on and off. Will probably buy it tomorrow, this thing's great! Only bad thing it's kind of hard to see 1920x1200 lying in bed 3 meters away xD.

theres also pinnacle profiler, but last time i saw was only a 30 day trial or something, also very complicated to use.
