Use by date of Eggs - how far can i push it?

I drive nowt, I lift big green trays of spuds/bananas/& other heavy stuff :(
My Produce section looks Great when I've done it though :D

I work in a Supermarket so am now Obviously an Expert in all such matters :D

I find this difficult to believe as the correct term is Eggspert. It's also the term for what the op could have - an egg spurt

I believe the date on an egg is always 3 weeks after it was layed - might be wrong about the timing though
but it's not a use by date, it's a best before I think?

erm, if an egg is "off" enough to do you harm, you'll know the moment you crack it. The hydrogen sulphide is unmistakable. Those borderline one will look "odd", and smell funny too. Once it tips past the fresh stage, the yolk will break up when you crack it into the cup, still edible, but not fresh.

I once tapped an "off" egg with a spoon to break it, and it literally exploded, spraying black crap all over the room, which stank up the place real nice...

(I keep mine for weeks, no problems)

Nancy (my chicken) laid this today. I think it has the aids.

I ate some eggs the other day marked 26th July 2008 which I'd kept in the fridge. They were fine.

I did crack open an egg that was 2-3 years out of date once, contained what looked like fairy liquid.

The use by date on eggs is based on keeping them at room temp, outside the fridge. If you keep them inside the fridge they will last well beyond their use by.
