use pc without a gpu?

I have a Crosshair motherboard and my 8800 gts 0c has to be returned to BFG fro repair. Can I use a monitor without a gfx card. Silly Q?

Well if you have an on-board graphics card on the motherboard, then yes you can, otherwise no!

I don't believe the Crosshairs have onboard graphics so there's no output for the monitor.

You could pick up a really cheap second hand graphics card while your one is repaired or replaced. I am sure you'll find something here or better still eBay should have plenty. Small price to pay to not be without a PC for a week or two.

If there is a vga output on the mobo then yes, surely?

Crosshair 2 does, not sure if the crosshair 1 does.

Totally Skint, had to scrape to get enough to post the card away even

No VGA on the Crosshair so am going to have to find something else to do with my time whilst I wait....patiently

you could try and appeal to someone who has an old gfx card lying around that they could send you and charge just postage (assuming you can at least afford postage fees).

I was after sli floppy bridge cable and someone sent it at postage cost only. I know it's not quite the same item of value but hey.. there's a lot of good and generous folk out there

I keep a dirt cheap graphics card for just such occasions, kept my old 22.2" monitor as well. You never know what's round the corner..

Worth picking up one just so you can at least get a screen to look at.

Thunder PM me your address I will send you a spare video card I have. Its only an old nVidia 9700 but it will get ya by for a few weeks until you get yours back
