Use Phono or Optical cable??

This is something I've tested fairly extensively but with coax and with a very good (£800) CD/DVD/SACD multi-player and AV Receiver about 1 notch up from yours.

What I found was that with basic freebie interconnects such as those red & white phonos that might come in the box with a CD player, then the answer is that coax was significantly better; this was with the multi-player set on pure audio out (no digital output circuits working at all) and the receiver in Pure Audio mode.

Higher quality shielded stereo phono interconnects (Chord Chrysalis) sounded far better and closed the gap so that it was difficult to tell much of a difference between analogue and digital; each having certain desirable qualities. FWIW, I found digital had a bigger sound stage and analogue sounded a tad sweeter.

So you might find the answer depends more on the interconnect than the quality of the CD DAC versus the amp DAC.

Oh, and when writing about making comparisons, the word you want to use is "than". Then is used when talking in reference to time. :)

I think at my price range of amp and player, maybe easier just to use the coax/optical, as I don't even own a high quality phono-to-phono lead but have a few optical ones kicking around

Thanks the advise though, and the grammar lesson lol
