use SSD to make system faster - well derr

I have a small SSD sitting unused, and was thinking about using it for caching or ready boost
What is the best option to get the most out of the drive.

System as 2 x 500GB in raid 0, SSD is a sata2 80gb intel drive

Hmm, didn't realise ReadyBoost was still a thing.

80 GB isn't that small, you can comfortably fit an OS and several most-used programs on it, whilst shoving programs that are large, less used, or that benefit least (e.g. games) on your HDDs. I only have a 40 GB SSD in my HTPC but with every round of Windows updates space does get a bit tight!

yer i pluged it in an ready boost popped up, 80gb is too small for the system that why i have 500's in raid.

Another option is to use 40GB for the OS, and use the remaining space to cache the RAID array. Programs will still work if they're installed on another drive.

What you mean? If your os is on the raid array you can use the ssd to cache or accelerate the raid array

Oh,I would try caching its just as quick as having the os on the ssd itself, just a few seconds slower startups but hardly noticeable

left with cache right without.
Wjhat happened to seq read on the cache? rest is all good tho

what ssd is it? if its sandforce controlled it will suffer in that benchmark due to compressionable or non compressionable data cant remember off hand

atto benchmark for sandforce drives

you mean lower seq writes with cache? it also might be taking into account having to write to hdd first then the ssd? idk how it works

lol yes i mean seq writes not reads,
but TBF i am more than happy. as you can see the read time's are way up. boot times are way down and load times of the app's i used are halved

Personally, I'd just get 256GB SSD.

That's way more than enough for any system. Get a single quick hard drive for storage.

What are your 500GB drives?
