Use the configurator or the repeatable "spec me a SFF" request!

Hi,

After over 14 years of building my own PCs (excluding laptops) my enthusiasm has somewhat waned, and to be honest since I last researched all the current components for my current rig (some 4 years ago) I’m really not looking forward to the usual effort and time investment in researching and re-familiarisation myself with all current components/configurations and set-ups!
So, I’ve initially peeked at the OCuk “Intel Z77 Ivybridge 10400i Configurator - Ultimate LAN Box Gaming PC” configurator but the myriad of options/configurations (best RAM type for CPU and M/B etc.) is now bewildering to me. My requirement is simple, the best “value for money” SFF PC with 16GB RAM with smaller primary SSD for OS and secondary Sata HDD (500GB+) for working storage which will hopefully last me for another 4 years. I do not necessarily have a budget but by reference to “value for money” as an example using the OCuk configurator, would be opting for a KFA2 Geforce GTX 680 as opposed to the Asus GeForce GTX 690 which is an additional £300+.

Alternatively I guess it’s a standard “spec me a SFF” which is “value for money”!

Cheers in advance, Paul.

EDIT - This box will be my main gaming PC and if I can get it to sound less like an aircraft taking off when in full swing that should placate the strife! Again, budget isn't a consideration however I do not want to be too extravagant by adopting the latest and greatest HW (primarily GPU).

OK, so would anyone be able to sanity check that the below spec actually gels? Although I would imagine it would all work as it forms part of the OCuk configurator(Intel Z77 Ivybridge 10400i Configurator - Ultimate LAN Box Gaming PC) my concern is whether the CPU/RAM and M/B is the best combination for performance and/or a OC.

Alternatively I'm definitely open to a better build/set-up outside of the configurator.

Yours cluelessly, Paul.

There are cheaper z77 motherboards than that one. That one might overclock better as it seems to be slightly more "enthusiast oriented"' however the gigabyte z77-d3h is a solid clocker and costs sub £90

Sorry you need SFF. There's the p8z77-m from asus...

Thanks for the response. I ended up going for a bundle (Prodigy system), which to be fair suits my needs and current enthused levels for PC building at this time!

My current system SX38p2 has lasted 4 years and to be fair the e8400 has been pretty much solid, even if I've had to compromise on some graphical bells and whistles with recent games. I'm pretty sure this new box will put a big grin on my face, hopefully for some years to come!

And yes, I got tuned into building up Shuttle bare-bones boxes years ago and I’ve liked the SFF from an aesthetic standpoint (even if at additional cost) ever since.

Cheers, Paul.
