Sadly I suffer skin allergy with normal materials hence my home sofa is leather. If a leather chair lasts for 3 - 5 years I would be happy especially around the £200 mark. They are getting better built etc and cheaperYou did very well out of that!
I cannot stand leather or PU leather, as you say it flakes like mad and goes everywhere and you find it on your clothes and floor often haha, along with the sweaty/sticky weld your legs and back to them factor, my next chair will definitely be material

I wouldn't knock HM. The Mirra 2 model I ended up with has been a huge success. I've only had it a week and it's fast becoming one of my favourite things. I've noticed a positive change in my back health on and away from my desk. It's comfy in a firm and reassuring way, and the tilt tensioner is one of the best I've ever used; it's very pleasant and effortless to rock gently.
I do think there is a little bit of hype - YouTube is rammed with ergonomic chair slop - but the quality is there on the HMs, no denying it.
For those who constantly recommend second hand HM chairs - it's a genuinely good option. I can vouch for it, notwithstanding the amount of ancient stuff on the market. It's not for everyone, of course, some people will always swear by a gaming chair, or whatever, and that's fine.

I think if you get one in good condition from a recommended place thats amazing ! However theres loads of poor ones and probably fake ones i would guess

That's fair enough second hand if it's a bargain. Where would you find one second hand, I'm guessing auction places and social media

I'm not in the UK, so I can't comment on the availability there. However in my locality there were a couple of options.
Specialist office furniture stores that professionally refurbish - these were done to a very high standard, basically looked new, but the models were older, and the prices far to high imo.
Private sellers - easily the best prices, but very varied age and condition. The problem here is you have to drive around to try them out.
Finally, I found a couple of small time guys who refurbish these on the side, like a cottage industry. They generally advertise on local auctions sites, and you can pick them out due to the number of ads they list. Seems they get the chairs from liquidation auctions etc. These generally had a few options to look at, and prices were closer to reality. One lad had a couple of two-year old unused fully loaded Aerons still in their original boxes for £650 each, but unfortunately not in my size. There's always a chance he staged all that, but they looked unbelievable.

I think you were very lucky. I have been down the used office chairs and my god the amount of ppl trying to make a quick buck on tattered knackered chairs . Branded or not - still not worth it. At this rate id rather buy a secretlab chair with warranty ! The online refurb chair companies are easily charging £600 - £800 plus for decent refurb brands.
