Used Titan X Pascal sent from Nvidia, be aware

If we want to live in a society where we have 14 days to return a product bought at a distance for any reason, then we need to accept we live in a society where we run the risk of receiving someone else's return. Saying people "abuse" the system is subjective, and there's no clear evidence of that in this case.

Personally, I have returned items in the past (GPU due to coil whine etc) and I've also received items that I suspect have been previous returns as they are opened, but as the items have been functioning perfectly I've seen no reason to send them back.

What do people expect?

If its used or a return it should be marked as such, and most likely priced as such.

I think you're being a bit naive if you think a business could take the hit for all the postage and price reductions just because someone didn't like a product that 99% of people might be perfectly happy with.

I agree it should be repackaged as new, but I'm not so sure it should be sold as used unless the return was due to a fault.

Agree. On a 1100 quid card I would probably send it back if got impression it had been used. Dsr should change tho -charge restocking fee that's then passed on as discount to those buying slightly used products

True. But spending this amount on a graphics card you would expect nothing but a brand spanking new card.

Personally, having now read what an utter dick Nvidia's CEO can be to his staff, I'm reluctant to give them any more money at all..

He comes off like Steve Jobs, nice on stage, utter bell-end off it. Even his presentation style is very Jobs like, wearing the same clothes, talking out of his arse, etc. etc.

Having watched that live stream, that guy who wrote that article is blowing it out of proportion. It was all tongue in cheek and Tom Petersen is Jen's right hand man as far as new launches go. However, if you feel that the guy was massively mistreated because you read it on the internet, do what works best for you.

Its not exactly news, he's known for his blow ups towards his employees.

Really? What I saw was no different to my workplace and it is harmless banter. Why does everyone need to be wrapped in cotton wool nowadays?

Its not just what was on stage, there's been stories of him over the years blowing his top and going boogaloo on people. As said above not that uncommon but still.

I admire the guy. He calls a spade a spade and you get what you get. I would have no issues if I worked for NVidia and he ripped me like he did Tom Petersen.

yeah...it happens. Just keep on at them for those return details and get it returned.
Did it stop you building the rest of the PC?

BWAHAHA yeah, never happens with OcUK ;)

There is another thread about a new 1080 looking to have been used and Bailey commented the audit trail shows it came from the supplier direct and was never a return to OCUK. So not just direct from Nvidia it happens.

I don't even know why Nvidia are getting involved in retail why don't they just leave it to the normal resellers?

I have to say that is utterly unacceptable at the very least they should send you a replacement within 24hrs and pickup the old card upon arrival.

As I understand it they're allowed to sell returned items under DSR as "new" as the card will be perfectly functional and do what it's intended to, its only packaging and won't be classed as a product fault so can't be returned under RMA! If you're not happy with the packaging you have the right to return it under DSR.

If it were in a shop it'd probably be reduced because people simply won't pay the full price so they'd have no option, theres no legal obligation that states they have do that though. One of the pitfalls of buying online is you're buying blind.

Money obviously, they cut out the middle man.

Given retail markup on these items is more often then not single digits (according to Gibbo) the extra pain of having to deal with great unwashed probably doesn't add much to the bottom line (they still have to pay for board partner to build these as well).

I remember ATI back in the day used to sell their own brand 'Made by ATI' video cards but even then ATI sold them via retailers like OCUK or Newegg. In the long terms I'd wager Nvidia are more likely to go down this path as they don't have to hassle of doing the whole customer services thing. It just seems bonkers for a company that has no customer facing/retail experience to go down this path, they have a good brand name and reputation but it doesn't take long wreck it.
