Useless grrrrr CV's rant

The OP is perfectly readable though.

If the OP was written in lazy "txt-s p k", or without punctuation and capilization (as seems to be increasingly popular lately) then he'd deserve to get pulled up on it, but a couple of typos/misspellings hardly justify it.
I wasn't criticizing the OP. I was pointing out that there should be no need for the excuse "I have different standards on a forum than I do when writing a CV", because should be able to write near-perfectly all the time, with no additional effort required.

Obviously small typos will slip through, but that's very different to not being able to write well without putting in an immense amount of effort. And if you find that typos are riddling your posts with errors, then learn to type properly.

I agree.

I mistakenly thought you was referring to the OP, my apologies. :)

I read your entire first post, and as such spotted the bit where you said your grammar wasn't exceptional. There is a difference between not exceptional and two errors in one simple sentence. Also, if you're able to criticise other peoples' spelling and grammar on a public forum, you had best ensure yours is right.

Unfortunately you failed to discern the context in which my criticism was couched. There are, for instance, no spelling or punctuation errors in my CV. The nature of a rant is that you spill emotion quickly loudly and in my case with spontaneity. I did not therefore take the time to spell check or give a flying fiddle about my grammar.

You can keep your

I have to say it is fun to have other people defend my bad grammar! Cheers all, I would broadly agree with Arcade Fire though.

IMO everyone should be able to communicate effectively in written form. My definition of effective communication being that you should be able to easilly discern what someone means.

It's not always the applicant's fault.

When I recently sent my (pretty damn good if I do say so myself) CV out to an agency, they rewrote it in their own format, misspelled quite a few words so much so that some of my current responsibilities made no sense whatsoever, and then sent it to my current manager! Lucky for me my boss knew I was looking for a new job or I could've been a touch screwed.

Needless to say they got a damn good chewing over and I dropped them like a hot potato.

Sorry but just felt the need to rant. I am doing all the recruitment for a company at the moment and they are looking for a admin assistant at the moment.

Of all the cv's I have recieved about 75% have really obvious spelling and punctuation errors. Obviously as this is a role that includes drafting letters and emails to outbound clients the temptation is just to throw these cv's straight in the bin. If I was the end employer I certainly would!

Please Puhleeaase anyone here that is doing a cv type it, print it, READ IT! Then get someone else to proof read it as well!!!

I am not putting my hand up as someone with exceptional grammar, in fact I get my office manager to proof any bulk mailing I send out.

/rant

It's probably beyond the call of duty but when/if you get in touch with applicants who fail, they may appreciate if you mention that their spelling/grammar is what is letting their CV down.

Ouch!

I very rarely ever change someones cv. If I do I at least have the decency to let them know I have changed it to and email it to them first!

You mean like this? - I readilly accept this is a harsh email but it was the straw that led me to post my earlier rant!

" Dear ****

Thank you for sending me your cv. Unfortunately I do not feel that Kings UK is going to be able to help you in your application for this vacancy. My client is looking for someone who can draft new documents from scratch and unfortunately your cv has too many gramatical errors for them to consider you for an administrative post.

Kind Regards

Do it, why would you want to employ someone who can't be arsed to use a spell-check on their C.V.? They're hardly likely to be the most motivated of workers.

Take a random CV from the middle of the pile and throw that one in the bin too - you don't want someone unlucky working for you... ;)

Tell me about it... I am working for an IT Recruitment company for the Summer, and you won't believe some of the **** I have seen in my 4 weeks here so far!

- 100's of people applying for a telecoms job without any telecoms experience

- most recent employment:

- 19 page CV

- one guy spelt his own name wrong 3 times

- one guy started referring to himself by a nickname

The list goes on... although you get a laugh sometimes with names like Swati Mylavarapu and Dick Vista! :D

Telecoms job/call centres are actually a step down from Maccy D's in my mind.

Well, sent it to them anyways - not used it for over two years as contracts line themselfs up for me at the mo, must be my winning smile LOL!

Well, hope they dont fall off their chairs laughing to much.

I sent a CV off yesterday. Afterwards I was proof reading it for the 6th time and noticed that I'd put a period instead of a comma, mid-way through a sentence. I was gutted. :(
