user friendly "shell" interface for Windows?

My kids are 5 and 4 and have no problem using Windows XP with no fancy shells needed just put all the icons (use large icons) they will need on the desktop and teach them how to use it.

shell replacement is a completely over the top solution for a problem that doesn't exist. they won't be tinkering with windows or messing about in explorer. as mentioned above, big icons for the applications they use and change the DPI settings so it's easy to read. job done.

What about something like Eldy? Designed for elderly users.

marc, I had that sig idea first :p.

Absolutely fantastic! Thanks very much.

FYI to the other posters, If you read my OP it was always for the elderly not kids. The elderly do not pick this stuff up as quickly as kids.

thanks again Pho.

if it's win XP then maybe worth checking out Windows Steady State too just incase they do manage to get into stuff they shouldnt. It will help you hide and block access to a lot of stuff in XP and will even restore all settings to a default profile once a user log's off if you want it to
