You could use an external docking station for the hard drives, and when you leave the house you can take them with you. Just don't forget them though, or if it is really important then you could leave the hard drives in a secured storage. Depends on how far you want them protected. :)

I personally would put water on the front path (hopefully it is cold enough to freeze the water) thus, any unwelcome intruders would slip and fall on said ice.

Next up I would attatch a paint pot on a rope to the ceiling in the corridor, so that aagain any unwelcome intruders would open the door and with my cleverly rigged paint pot, this in turn would swing and hit the intruders in the head and hopefully knock them unconcious.

Not forgetting of course the cardboard cut outs of real people, placed in the windows (curtains closed of course) and put these on a pully system thus making the intruders think there is people home and deter said ruffians. This will cost me though as I will have to leave the lights on for effect.

I think if that fails, then I would set a trap, where my computer self destructs into a zillion pieces, if any intruders pressed the power button. But on thinking that, it would be too late as they have already broken in and foiled my cunning plans and have read my e-mails.....this could end up being a right kefuffle. (not sure how you spell kefuffle)
