Using 2x 6 pin PCIE problem

Hi all, I recently tried to install a new GPU (VTX3D 7870 Tahiti) but I came across a problem. When I use both PCIE slots to power the card my computer wouldn't start up, it would run for a couple of seconds without posting, then restart quickly and stay like that. When I only used one of the PCIE slots it would run fine. I have since returned the card and am happy with my current setup so no issues there.
I was just wondering if this could be an issue with my motherboard, if I won't be able to run any GPU that uses 2 PCIE slots for power, or if it was just an issue with the card as I'm aware those particular cards have been known to have problems. I'm planning on getting a GTX 670.

My PSU is a Corsair CX600

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure where to post it.

Maybe you should use "slots" "lanes" and "connections" slightly differently as i thought you was having a crossfire problem halfway through your original post lol

What psu are you using??

A cx600 should be plenty for either graphics card... sounds like either a faulty card, or a faulty power supply - check the cables/connectors for damage etc.

Without looking it up myself, is it modular and is it clearly marked as to what rails you should put each pcie connector on?

Everything was/is set up fine and is working as it should now, the only problem I had was that when I had both 6 pin connectors plugged in to the GPU (the one that was returned) the computer wouldn't startup as I stated above. My new card only requires one connector so obviously I'm not having this problem anymore. I appreciate everyone's input so far but all I want to know is if it's possible that my motherboard doesn't support GPUs which require two 6 pin connectors?

OK well I'm certain it wasn't the PSU as I tried it on 3 different ones so it must have been the card, thanks for your help.
Update: I bought and installed a GTX 670 and it works great, now I know for sure certain it was the card.
