hi all,

As the title suggest really, me and my brother are thinking about buying a small 14 foot fishing boat to fish Southampton water in.

What licences & certificates do we need to keep the right side of the law?

anyone know?

I've googled but found conflicting information.

thanks :)

Phone your local Harbour Master or the RNLI they will help you out with what you need, you should really go on a course and I'm pretty sure your boat will need to be both registered and insured. For the love of god don't just go out in it if you're clueless...

cheers for the comments guys.

just to put your minds at ease, I've been sailing all my life (apart from the last 10 years!)

I'm happy on the water and I'm aware of the dangers, we'll only be potting about slowly fishing (can't wait!)

I'll call the harbour master this afternoon and let you know what he said.

thanks again :)

So i spoken with the harbour master who polity informed me that if I'm NOT selling my catch or taking money/services from anyone for taking them out then i dont need any certificates or licences!

happy days :)

thanks again.
