using a monitor as a tv

If you're looking for an LCD for TV functions I'm going to shamelessly plug the LG M208WA and M228WA range. Well if you can find anywhere stocking them!

Their only limitation is that they use TN, but I honestly haven't found that to be a problem with these monitors.

Hey JsD - have you got either of these monitors... i was thinking about getting one but then found out about all the details you need to check when buying and LCD and wondered how it delt with th efollowing:

Backlight bleed
Viewing angles
Scaleing - 10:16 - 9:16
Ghosting!!!

THanks!

Hey there, yeah I have the 20" version.

I have written a review following Baddass' guide which I shall post in the review thread (and it should appear on TFT Central) as soon as he gets back to me with the formatted version :D

However as a quick answer to you:

I have found it dealt fine with all of those criteria (though I'm unsure of what you mean by how it deals with the scaling)

Cool - well il look forward to the review.

and with regards to scaling, playing high def content made for 16:9 gets streched to the 16:10 that these monitors support, the whole 1050 thing. Happens on some monitors.

Built in speakers are usually crap if you get any.. just get a pair of computer speakers..they would be fine.

Not been able to test with much HD content, but haven't seen any stretching as of yet. :p

I use a Hauppage WIN TV USB Digital Freeview thing on my Dell 2405. It is very good, even if it is is a bit laggy when changing channels. The driver USED to be a bit buggy and would sometimes BSOD if the signal was weak.

However, they appear to be much better now and even with the lag, the ability to watch Judge Judy on 24" widescreen in my room, is well worth it.

I just looked on a populour Electronics website (starts with M) and they got a few, all about £35 - £60, and they do HD modes etc

i.e plug in a component lead and they out put to VGA

im tempted to get one

if u know this "m" compaany, have a look, are they ok?

EDIT//

Actualy, its M***** where i first saw a few, buts its a consolde website that lists them, something like "console plus"....
