Using a mouse and keyboard with a 360

I'm an old fashioned guy at heart and the idea of playing an fps on a console using a controller fills me with dread.

My question is quite simple. Are these keyboard/mouse adapters I've seen for the Xbox 360 any good and do they actually work? If I got COD4 for the 360 could I hook up a keyboard and mouse and would it work in game?

The answer could make the difference between buying a 360 and sticking with the PC.

They probably do work, you'd also be accused of being scum for using one.
Controllers are brilliant when you get used to them (everyone has to) and it presents a level playing field.

You can buy an adapter that you plug a keyboard/mouse and a wired controller in to that lets you play with KB/Mouse. I have heard that the mouse movement is very sluggish though, also I cant remeber what the adapter is called or how much it costs :D

Edit: It's called the XFPS 360

I've been using a mouse and keyboard all my life (I'm 30 now) and never really owned consoles in the past.

I've briefly tried playing one of the older COD games on my cousins 360 using the controller and it felt like trying to write with my wrong hand. It just felt sooooooooo strange and unnatural.

If these adapters work then I'll get a 360 and join in with some of my mates online but there's no way I'm going to buy one just to get owned each night trying to use a controller.

i heard these things use pc contols to imitate analogue sticks
so i dont htink you would get the same split second 180 turn you get with a mouse on pc

plus all this seems a bit poor - learn to play with a pad - EVERYBODY else does

I like the way you've emphasised everybody. I take it you know everybody personally then.

If EVERYBODY plays with a pad why are these adapters on sale? Perhaps the manufacturers have a cash surplus and like wasting money?

What makes you different from anybody else?

I doubt everyone in the world is 6ft, male, 30 and dark haired. So you could say that makes me different to a lot of people.

If you're trying to make a smart remark then it save it for another thread.

I came on here to ask a simple question and hoping for a simple reply. Not my ethics and/or morals dissected and questioned simply because I find it difficult using a controller... Jeez I must rank up their with axe murderers..

It wasn't a smart remark, nor was I trying for one, it was a simple question.
I'm stating what makes you so important that you don't have to attempt to get used to a controller like other gamers?

It's my prerogative to use a controller or KB/M is it not? Am I "sooo important" if I find it so much more natural to use a KB/M than some grumpy teenager who has used a controller for the majority of his life?

It's like buying a DS and saying your not going to make use of the touchscreen. It seems like your being stubborn.

Why you want to play COD4 on the 360 if your so against using a controller?

Adapters work but they are not the best.

Because I could be narrow minded and say FPS games on consoles are crap.. End of.

Or I could be rational and mature and try them for myself which is what I intend to do. If I can use a KB/M then I'd prefer to (after all I'm not talking about killing puppies here) and it's that simple.

Who cares if he wants to use a keyboard and mouse? Its not likely to effect any of you in any way.

Actually isn't their lots of people who say the mouse is more accurate, so he could have the advantage. A unfair advantage as well seeing as it means people would have to purchase a adapter and keyboard if they wanted to be in the same league.

I myself don't care. I'm not that kind of gamer. I sit down on my bed and with my headset on and controller in my hand I can enjoy console gaming. I couldn't do that with a keyboard and mouse. It just takes away part of the heart of console gaming.

Its easy to understand why people prefer KB/M to a pad for FPS as the the learning curve of a pad is much higher. If you spend some time playing with a pad youll get out of the **** stage and realise that its actually pretty sweet. Im at the point now where I think I actually prefer a pad lol. - on a console anyway.

You cant turn any faster with a mouse than you can with the controller, and whether its more accurate or not is down to the user. I'm sure there is a 14 year old somewhere who can pull off headshots with a controller just as good as anyone with a mouse can!

Yes you can. Moving with a mouse is a quick as you can move your wrist. Moving with you right thumb on the right stick is as fast as the sensitivity is on the game. Which the higher it is, the lower the accuracy you will get.

Perhaps people simply have me marked down as lazy so that could be why I'm subjected to the unnecessary criticism.

Let me make one thing clear. I've used any form of console controller for less than 50 hours at the most in my 30 years on this planet. Fine for the odd Tiger Woods night when my mate brings his 360 over to mine and fine when I've played a few platform games on an old PS2.

Perhaps I've got some undiagnosed reason why I find it NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE (not difficult, not awkward.. literally impossible) to move, aim, shoot, strafe etc with a controller.. I just can't do it.

People may thing it's a way of gaining an advantage but to me it's giving me the opportunity to join my mates online. If I'm stuck with a controller then I might as well play COD4 on the PC by myself.
