Hey guys,
Have been with orange for 2 years now (having never changed after my one year contract) and am wanting to upgrade. am currently on a 120mins a month thing which is £25/m! Ive got a D500, I have no problem staying with orange, signal has been good and customer service is better then am used too (was with three!) Problem is that I would like to change my contract to one of the animal ones as well as get a phone upgrade. in the T&Cs it says that if i do this then i will have to sign a 2 year contract (18months for new contact and extra six months for new phone!) Question is, can I just get my PAC off of orange and then start a new contract with orange as a new customer using my PAC to keep the same number? Ideally I would like to get the P990 on the £35 a month racoon plan. Is this the best way to do it? anyone know how orange works? any advice more then welcome!!

Sadly not - you cant PAC off and back on the same network - to keep your number you would have to upgrade...

ps3ud0

grr that sucks. Just looked on the orange website and the online upgrade feature and its saying that my upgrade fee (before the price the of the phone!) is £250!!!!

IIRC you can use the PAC to transfer to another networks PAYG, then transfer back to Orange on a new contract, im not sure on the time frames though, i THINK its a month

Why not try your luck with Orange Retentions, phone up customer services and follow the prompts that say you are considering leaving Orange. Then tell them what you're looking for plan and phone-wise and they may offer you a decent deal to stay.

Last year I had been on the student £25 tarrif (approx 120 mins and 1000 texts per month) with a K700i. I phoned retentions when I was in the last month of my 12 month contract and they offered me the Select 500 tarrif (£25 for 500 x-net anytime minutes and 100 texts per month) as well as a free W800i which had just come out, fair enough I had to wait a week for them to get stock but a good deal nonetheless.

I tried the same trick this year only to be told my monthly spend didn't warrant either a free upgrade or a change in tarrif. They wanted £100 for a Samsung D900. This was obviously because I didn't use more than my inclusive minutes because they gave me so many so my spend was low.
The retentions trick probably only works once and even then it's a lottery with who you get on the other end of the line and how much your monthly spend is.

In the end I went with a new contract on Vodafone in September with a Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition, which I'm now trying to sell so I can get a W950i.

Try to be firm about not wanting a long contract. If they refuse then you can always just get the PAC code (they will mail it to you which might take a few days) and port it onto a PayG sim on another network while you decide what deal you want to take for getting your P990i.

Good luck!
