Hi All

I want to use my Samsung SM932 Monitor with my PS3 but i need sound.I can get the picture up no problems but the PS3 has no audio outputs.I dont want to spend a fortune on an audio system so was just wondering if there is a cheap solution.Usb speakers or headphones or something.

Any1 else have any ideas(I dont want to spend a fortune on a surround sound system)

Thanks

Martyn

Not owning a PS3;

If it has no Audio outputs, how do you get sound out of it?
Does it use an all-in-one lead? (Like the composite av lead on the xbox 360)

Hi,

I've known someone who connected their ps3 to a monitor using an hdmi to dvi cable. At the same time he connected the component connection but just used it for sound. You can get a left/ right component connection that outputs to a single 3.5mm connection. You can then get a connector that is basically a tube that means that two 3.5mm can be connected and so a 3.5mm can connect to another 3.5mm connector and so you can connect the ps3 to a set of regular analogue speakers

I know that sounds a bit confusing but I cantreally explan it any better wth
out linking to a competitor that sell a lot of audio connections

I am posting on my phone at the mo but if you need anymore info when I am on my pc next I'll draw you a diagram in paint :-)

Ive got mine connected to a 2407FPW via DVI-HDMI. Audio is taken care of by optical out to my speaker amp - easy :p. The PS3 can output sound via optical and I know the AV cable it comes with would allow audio too (cant remember the name of the connector)

The PS3 has audio outputs!!!

Its has Optical (5.1), HDMI (7.1) and then using the cable provided, you can get two channel... And yes, you can set the output differently for video and sound and yes, you can have two sound output (though I don't think they output in surround sound if multiple outputs are used)

Ok so i gto my adapter and i now have sound when using my monitor now.
My monitor is a samsung syncmaster 932GW
The problem i have is.

Just wondering if any1 could help me.I am trying to use my monitor with my ps3 so i have unplugged my pc from it.When i start my ps3 up it says not at recommended settings 1440 by 900 at 60HZ i think.I can get rid of this by pressing a button on my monitor.
Was just seeing if there was an easier way to set it up properly.Ive looked through the monitor menus and cant see anywhere to change the resolution settings same with the ps3 menu.

Thanks

Martyn

I presume your monitor is complaining that you arent using native resolution for it - since the PS3 wont have an option to output 1440x900 I guess you will have to live with that.

Perhaps theres some way to suppress the message?

I use headphones connected to the audio out of the monitor and have the PS3 connected by HDMI. My monitor has a built in volume control when connected via HDMI so can control the sound output this way.

Strange regards your monitor output isn't switching to display the correct image. Has you PS3 been connected to something else that might be effecting the video output or is there a way to factory reset the monitor as it maybe preset to display PC res... probably highly unlikely though I guess.

I think it is because im not using a native resolution.Thing is last time i hooked my ps3 up it never said that.It may be because the PC im using is bodged together and the GFX card isnt supported by win7 so its just using a standard adapter.Oh well im sure i can live with it.
Thanks
