I have a only plasma tv, not 100% sure in the model. But its only got 3 scart connections on the back and thats it. So iv plugged my old 8600GTS into my pc to get an S-Video connection. I have an S-Video to scart cable, which plugs into a female-female scart box so i can put an extension on it then into the TV.

The tv picks up the signal relativity fine. I can see the log in screen on ubuntu but the picture is all green, purple and blue and it scrolls left along the screen.
Ill take a picture and upload it to show you.

Anyone know of whats wrong, would it be a compatibility issue? i have plugged a small 17inch monitor in at same time and then plugged the tv in. Ubuntu picks up the tv as a 2nd monitor fine. Im hoping the high refresh rate isnt an issue due to being a plasma.

thanks
marc

S-video is a video signal format rather than a PC signal format. It will need a refresh rate of 50Hz (for PAL) or 59.94/60Hz for NTSC and general computer use. It's not designed for the sort of refresh rates used with computer monitors

ahh cheers. I honestly dont know much about s-video, i thought i would give it a try and see as i already had the cables and that.

Sound like euther you have it set to ntac instead of pal, or you ate pumping composite video down the cable when it should be svideo video signal

Dont you mean NTSC? the tv does not have any settings what so ever to change the input/output signal. Its a very very old tv :)
