I've been following the thread about the Samsung 40KU6400 as a 40" 4k monitor. It looks like a great idea.

Which got me thinking....

I've been following the 35" AGON AG352UCG thread. It's a 21:9 monitor running 3440x1440 with Gsync. Looks like it will come in at about £800 when people finally stock it.

The Samsung UE43KU6500 is a 43" curved 4k TV running at 3840x2160. It will run this res at 60Hz with proper 4:4:4 chroma and a input lag of about 35ms and is about £250 cheaper than the 21:9 monitor.

There is also the UE40KU6100 curved 4k TV which is slightly smaller but appears to offer similar inputs and costs about £460.

Both these TVs are about the same width as the 21;9 and would be taller offering yet more screen space.

Really, really tempted by these options. Sure I like the idea of running gsync on my 1070 but I've never noticed tearing before on the games I play so I'm not that bothered. As for input lag, my current monitor has a lag of 25ms so it would be an improvement !

Any comments or advice ?

I am in the same boat as you. I want to upgrade from my dell u2711(1440p 27 inch monitor) to the Acer predator x34a which is £900. But I could get a 40 inch 4k TV and an nvidia 1080ti for a little more money.

I like the idea of the bigger screen so I'm very tempted!

OK, I'm seriously considering the UE40KU6100. The manual says it supports 60fps RGB 4:4:4 over HDMI. A review says the input lag in game mode is 21ms.

You can find it for £469 with a 5 year guarantee.

Compared to a 35" 21:9 monitor it looks amazing value.....

I'm going to buy a 4k TV in the next day or two so I'm as excited by this as you are. In the other thread people are using the Samsung 40ku6400. How does the ku6100 and ku6400 compare? Is one just curved and the other isn't?

I'm not sure what the difference is in the electronics driving the display. But to I like the idea of a curved display and both the models I mentioned are curved.

I am in a similar predicament, just can't justify the price for these PC monitors anymore as TV come very close in performance but with
almost half price or same price but twice the screen area. I really would like OLED monitor that's 43"Ultrawide but that's long way away and no OLED TV
that are 43" for a long time yet. So next best option is Samsung 43" ks7500 series TV just hard to justify the price tag so might wait to after April/may when Samsung release their new TV so that might drop the price on the current 7500 series.

Well, I've just ordered a UE40KU610, it arrives on Thursday. Got it for £415 which is a bargain compared to a 35" 21:9......

Can't wait. Wil post back when it arrives.

I thought I would post and try to give you some insight. I recently bought a Samsung UEKS7000 49" 4K TV for my lounge. It's such an amazing looking TV! I have in recent years had my PC in my lounge for gaming and other media uses. I upgraded from an early Samsung HDTV which was 40". This current setup wipes the floor with the old setup. The image is crystal clear!

I have windows increase the size of text and icons to 125%. Using a res of 1080p and I sit about 8-9 feet away from the screen on the sofa. Everything is easy to read and crystal clear. Anyways if you set it up correctly using Game Mode then you can get 1080p at 60Hz with a 20.7ms response time.

Long story short, the TV will automatically detect your PC as a PC. However, press "Input" in your controller, scroll to "PC" and press up. Then select "Edit". From the list choose "Game Console". You can now enable Game Mode which gives you a lot better image quality and response time over PC Mode. PC Mode locks a lot of settings which gives it sub par image quality and performance.

Gaming on this screen 1080p, 60Hz with a response time of a claimed 20.7ms is more than usable. Bearing in mind, it's a 49" screen!

I did try 4k res, it looks great also. However I have not quite perfected it yet. The mouse seems to be laggy, I guess due to it needing to travel over like 3-4 times more pixels than 1080p? Also if you use 4k res then things will indeed be smaller, so you will have to crack windows up to say 200% increase in font and icon size, not ideal. With my current spec, I would rather game at 1080p ultra than 4k low tbh.

My current settings are as follows:

Game Mode - ON
Backlight - 12
Brightness - 45
Contrast - 90
Sharpness - 50
Color - 50
Tint - 50/50
Apply Picture Settings - Current Source
Digital Clean View - OFF
Anologe Clean View - OFF
Auto Motion Plus - OFF
Smart LED - OFF
Film Mode - OFF
HDMI UHD Color - OFF (Unless you use 4k res)
HDMI Black Level - Normal
Dynamic Contrast - OFF
Color Tone - Warm 1 (Personal Pref.)
White Balance - Default
RGB Mode Only - OFF
Color Space - Native

You can read a quick write up I found here.

If you want a big 49"+ screen to game at 1080p, 60hz on the sofa. Then I can't fault it tbh. I am over the moon with it. It did however take my a good few hours to perfect the settings, and really annoyingly find out how to change from the forced PC Mode to Game Mode, which is a 100% much have! PC Mode looks rubbish and you will hate it.

Edit: In that write it does also say it can produce a 120Hz refresh rate. However I am yet to see this. I am not sure if you need to use 4K. Or whether it's even possible tbh. It would be nice though, any ideas anybody?

Also the settings above and game mode should apply to the Tv you just bought too!

^^^ Really useful thanks. ^^^

My intention is to use the 40" 4k TV at a distance comparable to my current setup (dual 24" screens). The DPI of 4k is just about exactly the same, so hopefully font sizes etc will all be fine.

It's also a curved TV so that should help with sitting closer to it. We'll see in due course.

Make sure you update to the latest firmware too when you get yours!

Keep us updated on how it goes Hodders!

I would love to know if either of our screen can produce 120Hz. If so, how...

You really need HDMI UHD Color - ON, so you can use the extended colour range, instead of the standard 'limited' range.

When I select on for my HDMI2/DVI input for my PC, the resolution changes to 4k?

I turned UHD on in my TV settings. I then changed res back to 1080p @ 60hz. Also set color format to RGB and dynamic range to full? For sure looks even more refined now! Thankyou!

I am guessing this is only of use if the device can supply full range RGB? So for example it would be pointless turning it on with my Virgin Tivo box?

Any idea how to enable 120hz refresh rate?

I know the TV can do 60Hz @ 4k with proper 4:4:4 chroma if you set the HDMI port to PC and turn UHD on.

Anything else will be a bonus! 120Hz at 4k seems impossible, if only due to th3 HDMI 2.0b specs.

Should know by this time tomorrow !

Right then.... It's here and I love it.

It's running 4k@60Hz with 4:4:4 chroma with no issues at all.

So much screen space !

Here is my desk before:

And here is the desk after - not sure if I'm going to keep the 2nd monitor...

Yup, mainly the newer consoles and PC's. Normal TV is broadcasted on the limited range. Makes no difference to Tivo, but makes the colours pop on PC :)

Certainly the key thing is that it supports 4:4:4 chroma information.

The colours on the 40" "monitor" look great. Really natural and certainly not over saturated (which is nice). Lucky as well, as the saturation controls get disabled when in PC/Game mode.

Really pleased and saved a good £200 over the Philips 40" monitor for example.

Only downsides are have to use the remote when the monitor has powered off and not having any USB hub on the monitor itself.

Looks lovely Hodders! What mode are you using? I found PC made things look all blurry. I set it to games console so I could turn on game mode, which looks 100x better. However my TV annoyingly keep swapping it back to PC mode when I turn things on....

Hodders, what image settings are you using? Ive got the 'ump with the TV constantly changing to PC Mode. So ive tried to adopt it over Game Mode. Settings now as follows...

I found PC Mode to be very blurry. However upping the sharpness slightly and changing the color tone seemed to of solved it!

PC Mode
Picture Mode - Standard
Backlight - 10
Brightness - 45
Contrast - 100
Sharpness - 65
Color - 50
Tint - 50/50
Apply Picture Settings - Current Source
Digital Clean View - OFF
Anologe Clean View - OFF
Auto Motion Plus - OFF
Smart LED - OFF
Film Mode - OFF
HDMI UHD Color - ON
HDMI Black Level - Normal
Dynamic Contrast - OFF
Color Tone - Warm 1 (Personal Pref.)
White Balance - Default
RGB Mode Only - OFF
Color Space - Native

Then in Nvidia CP I have the res at 1080p @ 60Hz. Output color depth at 12bpc. RGB Full range.

It's passes that Chroma 4:4:4 test ok. All readable.

Edit: Oh and all eco screen settings off as it messes with the backlight.

I'm using PC mode as - to me - the image quality is better. Input Lag seems to be the same as my 2nd monitor (measured using a mirrored stopwatch) at about 20ms.

Running in native 4k resolution at 60Hz with UHD turned on.

All other settings are the same as above.....
