Mini-Review: Samsung 40KU6400 as a monitor

Just a few early comments about this just in case anyone else is thinking of getting this;

1) TV stand is ***** awful to put together, unless mine was just badly manufactured. The two parts of the stand itself (not the plate that attached to the back of the tv) slide together perfectly but just don't fit well together at all - and the bolt you need to remove first to supposedly lock them back together isn't long enough by far to hold them together anyway. Other than that It was no problem at all, updated system software straight away and it finds my plex server (although its a pain to use, far too many blank / generic folders after my "movies" folder - where as on every other device I have, go into Plex /Movies and it displays all 600 odd films)

2) Very slightly disappointed that Samsung didn't enable all 3 HDMI inputs for UHD /HDR - now it looks like I have to pay for a 4k / HDR HDMI switch to use both the UHD player and the Xbox S . Given how cheap the actual inputs would be to upgrade all 3, its a bit naughty to only do one.

3) Certainly on my setup guide it looks like the UHD HDMI input (1) is nearest the top of the screen, on my TV its definitely nearest the bottom / nearest the Wired lan port.

4) In regards to the Samsung UHD player - very cheap of Samsung to not include a high speed hdmi cable with a £300 player (ok I only paid £150 as I bought it with the screen but rrp is £300 so should include a cable imo)

For some reason I thought the ID4 disc included with the player was the recent version which I'm not interested at all, glad to see its the 90's version which I'm sure I will watch a few times.

Wont have a real chance until much later to play some films but its looking really good so far. For the price I paid I'm more than happy but think the above comments are fair even at this price.

Just shoved my older 32 inch TV on my desk and tried to play with it, I have absolutely no idea how you guys have these big massive monitors/tv's on your desks, Way Way too big for me, Am I doing something wrong? Are you using controllers instead of KB/M when playing games? Do you sit far back from the desk??

I am thinking of getting one of these soon so i was looking around for some settings and found these by a member on AV forums ;)

Ok, so...
I had my Samsung KU6400 40" calibrated properly. Here are my settings.

Picture Mode - Standard

Backlight - 14
Brightness - 46
Contrast - 100
Sharpness - 20
Colour - 50
Tint R/G - 50
Digital Clean View - Auto
Auto Motion Plus - Off
Film Mode - Off
Dynamic Contrast - Off
Colour Tone - Standard (Cool meets calibration test standards also)
Gamma - 0
Colour Space - Custom (Red - 32 Green - 9 Blue - 0)

I was wondering if anyone can check these settings out and see what you think :)

and a link to the page as well https://www.avforums.com/threads/samsung-ue-ku6400-owners-thread.2036560/page-33

I thought game mode disabled 4:4:4 anyway, are you leaving the input type as 'pc' when using your xbox and taking the latency hit?

On PC mode a lot of those are disabled, sharpness should be at 50 (is the zero value in pc mode) brightness 45, contrast 95, gamma 0, tone standard and colour space native. Hdmi UHD colour should be switched on too and all eco stuff off.

Im not sure the latency hit will make much difference to me anyway :)

To be honest I hadnt noticed it changing , I will have to check when I get home

in regards to the picture settings I turned off "Digital Clean View " straight away from what I recall, that name puts me off to start with

Mine came today, brilliant for £409 with 5 yr warranty

Well this looks mighty good! Not surprised to see so many of you going for this over "monitors" as it puts the monitor indsutry to shame even more.

If this had freesync, it would be an instant buy for me. Any idea if there is anything else like this with freesync and maybe a bit smaller?

Create a custom 21.9 res. and you have an epic gaming setup

Nice monitor, was just wondering what size make is the TV/Monitor to the left of this picture?

Need a new monitor for light gaming and mostly work( programming, ect) but undecided between the Samsung 43" UE43KS7500U and this Samsung 40KU6400. It comes down to £800 vs £400 appx.
Although I wanted to get a curved screen, not sure if they are good for conventional desktop work, like reading, porgramming, webpages, editing ect although gaming they are good for. Just finding it
hard to justify extra £400 for just 3" more realastate and a curved screen with HDR.

The tv on the left is a 50 inch Panasonic TX-50CX700B , i did try my pc through that for a day, but it was too big!

PRC have the 6400 for £399 now, im sure JL would price match that as well.

Quite funny really, i paid less for the 50 inch, refurb from the outlet site with a 20% code.

Wasabi Mango UHD400 40" comes with freesync.

Affordable 4k at ~40" has been available from the korean market for a while.

Yeah I know about them Korean markets and they do look good value for money but I wouldn't want to take the risk should any issues come up as I imagine it would be a bit of a nightmare trying to get RMAs/replacements etc.

Has anyone tried gaming @1080p on this monitor? I'd love to have the 4k real-estate for productivity but with the best will in the world my graphics card is only going to handle 1080p at any reasonable frame rate.

Does it look ok?

So just took delivery of this monitor and everything seems all good except for one small issue, I think the screen is ever so slightly zoomed in even though set to PC.
Basically I couldn't see the bottom of the task bar.
I went into nvidia control panel and adjusted the screen size to 3802 x 2136 and now it looks a bit better.
Did everyone else have to do this or have i missed a setting somewhere? On the pictures in this thread it seems some people have to issue and some don't.

Cheers
J

Mine was the same, you should be using 3840x2160
