Hey guys, the situation is,

I will recieve a set of home plugs tomorrow. One of them will be downstairs connected to the wireless router, and the other home plug will be connected in my room upstairs. I was going to just connect it straight into my pc but it got me thinking:confused: Is it possible to hook the second home plug (upstairs) into another wireless router to use it as an access point and a switch so we can have a strong wi fi connection throughout the house?

Or do you have to buy an actual access point to do this?

Thanks.

Yes, it's possible.

I'm using a Netgear DG834G V4 router upstairs purely as an wireless access point/switch.

The BT router downstairs is still doing it's thing, and supplies the IP address to the router upstairs via DHCP. Make sure your turn off your router upstairs off from being a DHCP host :-) You might also want to turn off NAT on your router. Also, make sure you have A) A ethernet cable to access the router just in case you get the config wrong B) Know where the reset button on it is, and know the default username and password for it.. just in case.

I'd personally make sure it's either set on 'auto' for finding a free channel, or deliberately set the channels to be different as well.
