i've moved my pc into another room and was going to use the cable for a short while running through the hallway until i could be bothered to make a whole in the wall, turns out the cable was rubbish and broke being moved so now my pc is internetless.

i've got a spare router which i've tried to set up to improve the wifi signal as at the end of my place wifi is weak, however i've always failed to do this.

now is a good time to deal with that, and see if it's possible to then have that router send the interenet to my pc via a cat5 cable?

the main router i have is a talktalk technicolor something or other, and the second one is a dlink 615

The easiest way would be to configure the DIR-615 in 'client' mode. If it doesn't support it natively flashing it to DD-WRT could work.

A set of Powerline adapters would also be an option.
