Using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC to comment on PDF files?

I was wondering if it was possible to write comments on PDF files using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC? If not, is there any software that allows you to do it quite easily?

I have access to the full Adobe Acrobat DC through Adobe Creative Cloud, but I'm not sure if it is worth installing such a sophisticated program for a relatively simple task?

These tasks are for university where much of my course materials come in PDF format.

Assuming the document allows it (right-click -> Document propoerties -> security) you can add a sticky note by just right clicking on a page.

Reviewing and commenting on documents is a major feature of Adobe Acrobat. I haven't used the DC version, but on Acrobat Reader Pro, you've got a 'Comment' tab at the top right which opens up a side menu that allows you to add different methods of comments onto the PDF.

This feature also works particularly well on the tablet versions of Adobe Acrobat. Reading on a tablet and adding comments is quite a nice way of reviewing documents. Especially if you've got a hell of a lot of them to get through and don't want to be hunched over a laptop.

Sorry, but Word would be a terrible way of commenting on PDF files.

Yes, but it is free (in as much as it's on every PC) and it would work

It's not free, and it would work in the same way that adding a sticky note to your monitor and taking a photo of it would work.

Adobe Reader is literally made to be able to do this and is completely free.

Eh? Open Word, open PDF, add comment. How is that the same as putting a sticky note on your monitor?

You mention Adobe Reader Pro (not free). Can Adobe Reader add comments to PDFs too because unless the author enabled reader comments, you'd only be able to use the sticky note and highlights tool.
