I've got an Acer Revo R3610 4GB, 500GB HD and Windows 7. I also have a Samsung F4 2TB HD in a Icy Box eSata enclosure.

My plan for the Revo was to use it mostly as a NAS but also as a general Windows 7 and Media PC in the Lounge. So far I've done a clean windows 7 install with all the latest drivers and updates. I've also set it up on my Homegroup and have no problems accessing it on my network when it's awake.

I am having two major problems though, I can't wake the Revo over my network from sleep mode to access the 2TB HD and i can't get the external 2TB HD to power down/turn off when the Revo sleeps :(

I'm really pulling my hair out with this, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks :)

You'll need to look into using 'magic packets' to get it to wake from sleep. As for the external drives, dig into the advanced settings for your power plan and set the delay for hdd's to turn off when plugged in.

Thanks, I've solved the problem of external HD not sleeping (had it set to sleep after the computer instead of before, doh!)

Still haven't solved the wake on LAN problem though :(

Is magic packets a program I have to launch on all computers on my network (ones a MacBook) in order to wake the revo/nas?

I really thought it would be as simple as the fact you are accessing the revo would be enough to wake it :(

Now i am able to wake the Revo using Wake On Lan - Magic Packet but it fails to go back to sleep once woken.

I have it all up and running now, Solved the sleep problem by disabling Pattern Match.

I can even wake my Revo/Nas up with my iPhone :)

I plan to do something similar, my revo currently has XBMC live, but I'm thinking of either loading Windows or Full Ubuntu with XBMC on top and in the background using my external HDD as a NAS so I can access the other things from PC/Laptop. How you finding the speeds on it?

The speed is great but i am in the process of upgrading my Network to Gigabit, I tinkered with Ubuntu and XBMC even had a triple boot system but have decided to just stick with Windows 7 as it just works better. The latest XBMC for windows works very well now and streams HD without problem. I'm very happy with my Revo setup but i'm going to replace the 500GB slow HD with a 60GB SSD as I could do with the speed more than the internal volume :)
