Hi i have a adsl2+ router modem that i'd like to use temporarily with my plus net fibre. I tried just stick the ethernet from the fibre modem into the router but that didnt work. How do I get it to work? The router is an netgear one from a few years back.

Pretty sure the new DSL-N66U supports fibre connections. Firmware probably isn't mature yet though

Unless you router has an Ethernet WAN port, then no it won't work.

Posting the model will help determine if it has a dedicated or selectable WAN port, or neither (ADSL only)

Doesn't look like the netgear has an Ethernet WAN port

also doesn't look like the Thompson does.

If you are after a cheap but pretty decent router that does the job have a look at TP-Link or if you want to spend a bit more money look at the bigger players.

Remember you don't just plug from your BT Openreach VDSL modem in to the ethernet WAN port and away you go, you need to configure your RADIUS or broadband supplier login details on a PPPoE type connection

Unless of course you want to use a single box for VDSL modem and routing, you can purchase VDSL routers, albeit more expensive.
