Very nice. But we wont see this replacing computers at all. Its hassle. Its not compact and in my opinion its messy.

What are you referring to? the razer tablet or the phone in the OP? if you are talking about the phone then how is that not compact and messy?

Actually the wiki page for MHL says my LG Optimus 2X actually has MHL technology. Weird that it has an HDMI port in that case. Perhaps I can just do without the cable as the functionality is built into the phone?

You just need a micro HDMI cable & you can hook it up Scougar. Not sure if you get one with the phone but they can be sourced online fairly cheap :)

Say I plug my phone in, get Bluetooth mouse and keyboard etc, get it all hooked up, can I have the screen on my phone off and the image on my monitor? Or can i only have the image on both ?

I have one of those :-D Came with the phone ;-) I'm just wondering if there is any value in using an MHL cable instead? (like it being able to charge your phone at the same time for example).

Depends on you really, Can you not charge it from the bottom at the same time as the micro HDMI cable is in?

If you can do that it is basically what a MHL adapter does anyway. Unless of course you have a TV that supports MHL then it will charge without a power adapter.

Key thing I think was 7mins in when he says we are a couple of generations away from actually enjoying the experience rather than just doing it to see if we can do it.

I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I plugged into my tablet once and never used it again for example.

I can see pcs on a stick/built into tv/monitor replacing many peoples tradition desktops.
How many people actually need a desktop.
My parents certainly don't, it'll take a few years for software to get up to scratch but with win8 it makes mobile devices as full fledged desktops very plausible.

I'm getting one of these as soon as I can, developer models should be on sale q1 with retail models septemberish.

Hopefully by the time parents computer needs replacing I cabin shrink it and the associated costs.
Not far from doing it now. Just need famlytremeaker to be WOA comparable, but. Can see that being a while away and of course a w8 pc on a stick. Same with my auntie. And it's almost impossible to mess up and change settings on such systems.

It is rather messy I admit, but it doesn't stop the geek in me wanting to buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, even though I doubt I will use it lol.

I plugged my phone into my 26" monitor last night and it was a pleasant experience. Annoyingly my Toshiba tg01 host cable did not not fit my micro usb port as the plug was too 'square', rather than having tapered edges. Trying to decide what is the best way forward, and how I might actually use a keyboard/mouse. My thinking is that I am more likely to use the device at work BUT reception in my office is so incredibly bad that half the day there is no signal at all (maybe more), so I am trying to sort that out first with antenna etc, before anything like this becomes viable.

Let's be honest, I don't actually need a mini computer, and anywhere there is a screen there is likely to be a PC attached to it. For example.. I played Dungeon Defenders last night on the phone to monitor, and whilst 'ok', I just started up the PC version, and it is so much more satisfying.

Glaucus > What's the expected cost of that device? (If you know): EDIT: Actually, found out
Q 2. How much will Cotton Candy cost?
A 2. First run products will sell for well under $200

wow you can play a 10 year old pc game on a tablet.

now try running the new crysis with everything set on high ;)

that is what im saying, in 50 years time you should be able to run a brand new game of that time at low settings on your phone.

but there is no way you can run any brand new top end graphics game on your tablet.
Already been done See

Watch this
then take into account phone GPU's later this year are meant to be x20 more powerful and I think we can all agree phones/tablets will overtake today's consoles this year.

Here's an idea....

Each app has a desktop version bundled which is more power hungry and desktop orientated.

When docked the app launches uses the desktop version instead of the mobile instance

I can't watch videos at work. What version of Android do you need to be able to do this?

There isn't a specific version of Android for this, there are devices running Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich that support HDMI out either via a dedicated port of via the USB port using MHL. You just need a device that supports HDMI out in some way and then just pair a keyboard/mouse to it as well.

I did this with my wayteq tablet worked well for the most part

it had a mini hdmi port, usb host and bluetooth. I only ever used a usb mouse with it though, and the only problem I could see is that some apps are portrait only.
