I've got the following components,
motherboard
hard rive
power supply
processor
ram

my motherboard has integrated graphics however I do not have a case, I however have a playstation 3 box and I was wondering if i placed in motherboard in the box cutting holes for the cpu fan and sellotaping a case fan to a hole in the box would it be feasible for at most 2 weeks till I can afford a case?

Erm, I have done this many moons ago, it did work. Although I was doing it old kit so I didn't mind taking a few risks.

You will however probably have to rig up some sort of power switch (when I did it power switches were still part of the PSU).

Yea, surely it would be safer to fun it off a desk or something, rather than cram it into a box and start a fire.

The flash point of cardboard is around 200 centigrade. Nothing in the case will make it to 100 centigrade. Therefore the box is not going to catch on fire.

The motherboard might not appreciate having zero airflow over the back of the board, and it's supposed to have grounded standoffs. In practice this is unlikely to matter.

Power on via keyboard/mouse would be useful, your bios probably offers this.

ive seen people run a PC our of a pizza box, and also out of a plasic storage box (no lid, nor literally a box, but still called a box?) Both worked find, both have been done multiple times. Just make sure theres some airflow. The pizza box had holes cut into it for fans etc.

This was done at LAN since they had couriered their case to the LAN and taken the bits themselves, but the case didnt turn up in time so they had to improvise.

Just NO lol. So many things wrong with that.

Id wait a couple of weeks why risk your hardware you have saved up for. I only bread board (board on top of a mainboard box) if I need to test hardware.
