Hi there,

I use my personal car for work errands, they pay my insurance and will now pay my petrol

Whats a fair rate per mile? I drive a 2.0l Honda Accord W Reg

Thanks in advance

the company dont pay fuel at the moment are about too..

its a charity as well, so how does the tax relief work?

thanks

When I did bit of company mileage, they paid for the difference that "Business use class 1" added to my premium and 40p/mi.

Most places won't give you a direct sum, they just give a figure per mile.

Its up to you to make sure you have the right level of Business cover, so make sure you get that added onto your policy.

Size of car / efficiency has nothing to do with what your company pays you.

My misses uses her own car for work , a 1 litre Corsa. She does around 300-400 miles a month and gets 35p a mile. She works for the NHS.

you can get tax releif if that is all they pay thought tbh if there is no monthly allowance involved then 20p is very bad

45p per mile here but they don't pay my entire year's insurance like yours seem to be doing.

Sounds like you're going to end up in some sort of halfway house between a company car where all expenses are paid for and you claim back business fuel used vs a private car where you are responsible for expenses but claim back a 45p per mile rate to cover it all (supposedly).

Personally, i'd much rather be wholly one or the other or the tax implications will be more messy than I could be bothered with.

FWIW, my car averages about 35mpg and this gives me a fuel cost of roughly 20p per mile at the moment, so the proposed rate would likely cover fuel but you're still left to pick up the tab on stuff like your servicing, new tyres etc.

Coincidentally I've just had a meeting about this and it was agreed that due to increases in pretty much all costs we'd put it up to 50p per mile (they pay for their own insurance).

20p per mile is less than the cost of the petrol, assuming 28 miles per gallon, which is what you would expect in your car in urban areas.

20p a mile sounds low, but if they are paying out a few hundred quid for insurance that needs to be taken into account.

I get £55 a month as a regular payment, then 35p a mile for every business mile.
