Hey guys,

Currently running a Super Flower Leadex Titanium 1600w power supply that I purchased many many years ago and has lasted through 3 full system upgrades (System currently a 7800x3d and rtx3090)

The power supply has been rock solid and still continues to do so but with these new power connectors for GPUs am now wondering if I have to change it just because the connectors are different? I'm looking to get either a 5080 or 5090.

Will I be able to use this power supply on these cards some how or am I being forced to replace a perfectly working power supply because of connectors?

Cheers :)

Not sure this helps, but I've been running my 4090 since launch via an adapter cable on a Corsair AX1200i with zero issues. The PSU itself is around 4 years old from an RMA.

I'm undecided about changing it for the 5000 series launch. Seems like the 5090 could draw about 125w extra over the 4090, but even so - I never saw my total wattage climb above 750w whilst gaming.

Oh ok so am i to assume i can just purchase an adapter cable to use on the new cards? im ok with that but a quick look seems to suggest Super flower adaptors are no longer available.. loads available for Corsair PSUs though.

Ill have a look but i might just buy a new PSU

Cheers mate

You don't need an adapter as Nvidia GPUs come with an adapter cable so they will work with older PSU.

That superflower PSU is a quality unit.

Apparently CableMod E-series cables fit Super Flower PSU's if you want a cable that plugs directly into your PSU. (please double or even triple check this though)

Or just get a different 3rd party adaptor as the Nvidia one looks nasty.

Technically that PSU would power multiple RTX5000 cards. The issue is the god awful 12vHP connectors Nvidia use. I believe Nvidia have 5 or 6 versions and revisions and all are prone to failure.

It is actually something to worry about. Nvidia blame the user when it all goes up in smoke, and that little connector can see maybe 45-50 amps, which IMO is bonkers. At this point Nvidia should colour identify the different revisions of connectors and plugs, or many just give us screw terminals/have electricians install the cards.
