Using headphones safely

Them headphones are classic! But anyway, keep the volume level decent and you'll be cool. You know your musics to loud when:
1) You can't hear conversations around you
2) People can easily hear your music when close

i found them big headphones put pressure on my ears after a while and they begin to hurt, regardless of the volume. I much prefer earphones myself.

To really take care of your hearing you have to rest your ears periodically. You shouldn't use headphones for more than one hour at a time, because the constant exposure to sound waves generated so close to the eardrum will eventually damage the delicate lining of the ear.

Every hour, stop using the headphones and get hold of a small pepet, which you should fill with olive oil. Drop 2-3 drops into your hear with your head tilted away, and use cotton wool to plug the gap. Leave it in there for about ten minutes, then remove the cotton wool and use a clean cloth to remove any excess oil from your ears. This helps to regenerate the lining of the ear and keep everything nice and lubricated. Then you can listen away again.

Also be careful not to let the headphones press your ears against the side of your head too much - the shape of your ear acts as a damper for particularly dangerous frequencies, which can jar the small bones in the inner ear resulting in earache, and eventually partial loss of hearing. This is a leading cause of deafness in old people.

.

When its lubed up the sound travels faster too, so it sounds better.

I swear to god, the op nicked those headphone from one of the naval ships (look exactly like the one used by the sonar operator) lol :D
Like Nitefly already mention - check out the curly wires. :D :D so un

Yes, that's another advantage of lubing up your ears. If you can't get olive oil, then use vegetable oil. For christ's sake though, don't use WD40. That stuff is meant for robots.

Yes, that's another advantage of lubing up your ears. If you can't get hold of any olive oil then you can use most other well-known lubricants. KY Jelly actually works surprisingly well, but you have to apply it with a cotton bud instead of a pepet. For christ's sake though, don't use WD40. That stuff is meant for robots.

Putting lubricant in your ears? Are you sure that's safe? Sounds dangerous!

I am being serious now, I can't tell from looking at them if they are good or not, but they wont sound tinny, they are big, the drivers will be big so they will at least be alright. If they have been nicked from a submarine, I would sell them because they will be worth a tidy sum. :D

Joker! But surely if you get it on your ear drum then it will make sound distorted?

Personally, i wouldnt try an advice like that, i am almost deaf in one ear and i would NOT take a risk of losing the second one. As it is, i find it hard speaking english language properly hence sign language will even be more difficult.

I dont put nothing in my ears apart from cleaning them and using headphone (not the sonar ones as posted by the Op) when in the studio and listening to my sony mp3 player.

n00b.

Seems to me that most people in this thread are taking the **** because these cans look old.

New does not necessarily mean good. Just because something is old doesn't automatically make it crap.

I think you're getting confused between ears and eyes.

***I cant stop laughing and people in the house thinks im mad**

Same thing i thought, i dont know OLIVE oil is designed for use as an ear lubricant, i thought it is universally used for cooking, dressing, body cream but not as an ear lubricant.
i also doubt if anyone will put that in their eyes....not me anyway.

I don't think I'm going to be shoving KY Jelly in my ears either.

Ditto, mine were designed in 1973 and they still are being made today. Before that I had some old ones that were probably used by Hitler's PA sound engineer.
