I've done some searching and found nothing conclusive, but I'm unable to connect to my NAS via Homeplugs. I have internet access as my PC is working just fine.

I've attempted to access using the standard diskstation address and my quick link address, but for both addresses, the unit cannot be contacted.

All the lights on the NAS are on including the ethernet one on the back.

Do you know its IP? Can you ping it?

Unfortunately not! When I used it at my old place, it was wired to the router and used diskstation:port.

Use advanced IP Scanner to locate it maybe?

I have run it but it can't see it - will try an alternative ethernet cable

Will hitting the rest button on the NAS make any changes to the content stored?

Tbh i went to the trouble of putting cables in the walls, luckily my house is fairly new so i dropped them down behind the plasterboard and with a bit of buggering about it took 4-5 hours to get the cables upstairs and under the floors and down to the living room. No cables visable what so ever as i just put cats5e sockets into the wall (flush mount ones) i got a 305m box of cable (always get solid conductor not stranded) and it makes such a difference. I would always run cables now in my own house. It was kinda fun doing it too tbh. I only wish i had more devices so i could have a giant switch and little server cupboard lol.

Wifi ? wifi is considerably faster than home plugs

You can always run cables.

I don't have an adequate wifi dongle and to be fair, the transfer speeds aren't that far off USB so its not a massive issue.

I've moved out of my house and lodging at the moment so not looking to run cables. I've been playing BF4 and streaming from the NAS with no issues so I'm happy with it at the moment.
