Using HOST file.. dependent on ISP?

Hi There.....

Doing webdesign I often need to test servers before setting the domain live, and to do this I used to use the hosts file to spoof the domain to looking at the new server. I havent done this for a while but am trying to today but its no longer working.

The domain pings the new spoof address so it looks like its working fine, but in both IE and FIREFOX it brings up the old address no matter what I do

I have tried flushing the dns and every other trick I can think of.

My only thought is that maybe my ISP is caching or not letting me do something, Im using NTL and I wondered if there was any way around this??

Thanks for any help in advance

Scott

NTL use caching servers, which do there own DNS lookup, so i dont think there is an easy way to bypass it. As i used to have the same problem also up until about 2weeks ago where lichfield area was taken off the proxies :)

Unless you've set either IE or Firefox to specifically use those proxies, you still shouldn't have a problem.
Sure IE or FF aren't caching the page?
