Hi all

Iv gone and got myself an iPad 2.

Two things I need help with.

Firsty, can i sit I'n bed and use the iPad to control my iMac on the other side of the room wirelessly? Is log me I'n style software the only way or is there an apple way?

Secondly, can the iPad not be used to control my rooms av stuff. Ie sky box and my sound amp and maybe even playstation? Ie do what a universal remote can? I assume you'd need some sort or IR dongle?

I'm struggling to find cool things to do with my iPad. I'm not really interested I'n games on it.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Your struggling for cool things to do with it? Lol

Anyway there are a couple of options, one called red eye with an IR dongle which plugs into the headphone jack and another which uses bluetooth although I forget the name of it.

Think there may have been previous threads on the topic a while back.

Skully that link to logitecs new device which will allow you to use your iPhone/iPad as a universal remote in the same way as a harmony remote is exactly what I'm after.

But it's not out till next month right? And do we know if it's 100% confirmed or not?

I suppose this would be better than buying a IR dongle for your iPad. Also I assume the logitec app will be brilliant as this is what they are good at (as seen by their remotes!).

Turbo g, can you tell me any more about this Bluetooth thing? Surly that won't work as not all av devices have Bluetooth capabilities?

Also what app/software would you use with an IR red eye or the Bluetooth alternative?

The logitec link does seem better!

I can use it to control my tv, sky box and amp. Seems to control the ps3 you have to buy an extra dongle.

I can see this fast becoming an expensive hobby. Id be replacing my two remotes and one ps3 controller with an iPad app and a £100 link up gadget. And to link the ps3 will cost another £50 odd AND you still need the controller anyway for the games.

Lot of money just so you can use your iPad instead of you amp and sky remote!

I suppose it's more bling factor than practicality and value for money.

I rang logitec and they have no idea when it will be out in the UK. :(

There are quite a few different companies making these devices now,

another one is Peel!

http://www.peel.com/

I do want to buy one of the three that has been linked but I would like a comparison review at some point!

I will also end up buying one... Just because it's cooler using my iPad in bed to control stuff than a remote!

As logitec are the Market leaders in this kind of thing and their service is always brilliant I will go for the harmony link. It used the same software and device info their remotes do and I've never seen anyone say a bad thing about a harmony remote.

Skully may I ask, what will you use this for and why? Are you going down this route, like me, just because it's a gadget or do you actually have 10 remotes that need replacing.

Il be happy to do a review for you on the harmony link as soon as it becomes available.

Main reason because it is a gadget and I like gadgets, but also because I use Apple TV, Sky, AMP and TV and they all need different remotes.

Get's quite difficult explaining which needs to be turned on first, which input to use and how to change inputs.

The wife can just about manage but as soon as she needs to use XBMC on the ATV she hasn't a clue!

Pressing one button to start XBMC and control everything would be ideal.
