Some of these questions are going to be stupid because i have no idea in this particular subject region.

I was thinking of upgrading my 20.1" viewsonic widescreen to a 26" acer widescreen monitor (about £580). Then i started looking at the 32" LCD Tv's on OCuK for around the £400-£600 region. I have now been left with a dilema of 3 choices.

1). Upgrade my monitor to the 26" Acer widescreen

2). Upgrade my monitor to a 32" LCD tv and use that for all windows, gaming, dvd playback and watching tv through my tv card.

3). Keep my monitor for windows and gaming use. But also connect a 32" LCD tv for dvd playback and watching tv through my tv card.

I am currently swaying towards option 3. Which would you choose? If i used 32" LCD for general windows use and gaming would i see a reduction in quality?

If i do keep my monitor and get a 32" as well, how would i connect the TV? vga, dvi or something else? Would gfx card effect the quality of dvd and tv watching on the LCD? Is it possible to have a dvd playing on my pc displayed on the 32" LCD at the same time as browsing on the monitor? Will my 1800xt be up to this?

A crap brand £400-£600 32" tv isn't going to be as good for gaming as your current monitor. I don't think acer is a good idea either.

Think i'm going to go with option 3 then, keep monitor for general pc and gaming, and hook LCD up to play dvd's and tv. What would be the best way to do this, in terms of cables required?

Vga, samsung tvs dont accept pc signals through hdmi.

My LE32R73BDX does

Only supports HD resolutions though (720p, 1080i and maybe 480p, haven't checked that one) and overscans somewhat.

Bear in mind that the VGA input on all LCD TVs accepts only 60Hz so any UK TV recordings at 50Hz will appear a bit jerky.

I have decided on buying a 32" Samsung Bordeaux LE32R74BDX.

One question though. Will this come supplied with the cable required to connect up to my pc? If not, what cable will i need to buy to put into the back of an x1800xt? Just a normal vga cable? Or HDMI?

Good choice. I picked up one the other day and its great, beats watching films on my 19" monitor! :D

Gonna try some games later, see how it looks playing bf2142 @ 32" :p

You will need a VGA cable for hooking up to your pc!

Ok, i have just purchased a 32" Samsung Bordeaux LE32R74BDX. Is it definately just a normal vga cable i need? I was thinking of buying a dvi - hdmi cable, will this not work?

It will work, but as Energize and myself are saying, it's not well supported...VGA gives a much better picture.

I have another stupid question :p

I have a set of logitech z-5400 5.1 surround sound speakers, is it possible to connect the tv directly to these to output standard tv audio instead of the in-built speakers on the tv.

certainly can. the tv will have analouge left and right audio outputs. a simple stereo rca cable (aka phono) is all you'd need:)

yes use vga. your tv wont do any image processing then and you should have 1:! mapping (no overscan)

Yes, the tv has digital optical out.
