Using non Apple mouse with MacBook Pro

Hi All,

So I recently found myself having to do some work on my MacBook Pro and decided to setup my external mouse and keyboard on it for the first time.

The experience with the mouse was terrible to be honest...

The mouse was unresponsive and felt laggy when moved and also the scroll wheel seemed to scroll in reverse (seemed to be based on the multi touch settings).

1) Is there a way to fix the laggy mouse? Is it a known issue?
2) Is there a way for the scroll wheel to work normally and not use the multi touch settings?

Thanks

Have you tried adjusting tracking and scrolling speed in settings? I've just plugged in a microsoft mouse to check these. I need to set tracking speed all the way to fast for what I think is an acceptable speed. Scrolling speed seems fine for me at 3 bar. Although if you think scrolling is still to slow, adjust it as per requirements.

Also, there is the "scroll direction" option. If it's set to natural, it's back to front from traditional setting. Why Apple implemented it I don't know. I never use it except on my phone.

Not sure if this helps but from my experience they should all work fine.

I often plug difference mice into my MBP for when the kids play games. I've never found any of them laggy. I plugged a wireless mouse in there today for the first time and it was plug and play and works perfectly.

The issue with OS X is that mouse acceleration is enabled by default, and if you turn it off you lose speed control. Ridiculous, but that's the way it is unfortunately.

Steermouse is fantastic but expensive. I've found it better than USB Overdrive (which is far more confusing). Of course, if there official drivers available, use those instead, even if they are pretty poor.

So just tested my mouse again and the performance is horrible, it really doesn't feel as smooth as it should and scrolling is jerky...

Tested a second mouse out on it as well and same thing.

Not really looking to invest in 3rd party software, surely this can't be a known issue with MacBook's can it? I really don't feel like i should have to invest in a pricey Apple mouse in order to get normal mouse use...

Hmm I have used a Razer Naga amongst others on my macbook pro and never really found any issue, it seemed to work fine out the box. I know this isn't very helpful but just sharing my experience
