Using nvme m.2 adapter

I want to buy a new SSD but I found that the nvme m.2 price similar to SSD

so as I am already using the only nvme m.2 connector in my motherboard I need an adapter

I looked in amazon , I found 2 types
-PCIe Express
-PCIe x16

which one is better to use?

and are those adapters will give the real performance drive?

I was looking at thing for example:

all adapters seem from the same source but different brands?

Most NVMe drives require 4 PCIe lanes. Some drives require only 2 but they are a bit slower.

A 'PCIe x16' adapter requires a spare PCIe x16 slot in your motherboard (the longest PCIe slot and the same length slot used by a video card), although it would probably only require at least 4 lanes to be enabled. PCIe Express isn't an alternative to 'PCIe x16' and you would need to read the detailed description to understand what type/length of slot it can be plugged into.

I would be inclined to go for an adapter card from a well known brand, such as the m2 nvme adapters listed on overclockers.co.uk

I have an adapter in my rig because I wanted faster HD storage but have an old MOBO with no M.2 port.

This is the one i purchased. Has expandability to connect one M.2 to a SATA port as well, figured i might go for this in future if i wanted another cheaper alternative thats not as fast.

One thing is that when i use both PCIe 3.0 x16 ports on my MOBO it drops them both down to x8... and apparently this was only about a 5% drop to my GPU performance.
The NVMe drive gets bottlenecked as well by bandwidth and I think im getting like ~1.7Gbps read/write from the drive instead of the 3.55Gbps/2.5Gbps stated but its still 3x faster than the SSD my OS is installed on so works nicely for me.
You might wanna check into your mobo PCIe functionality before you go buying a drive + adapter.
