Using old passport as ID

Not completely sure, might depend on club but I did get rejected once. Doorman said I wasn't getting in and when I asked why he said the corner's cut off the passport - not a valid ID.

Passport might have expired but the person on the passport hasn't. Don't see why it wouldn't be an acceptable form of ID.

It's not an acceptable form of ID because most bouncers* are failed meatheads who pride themselves at 'doing security innit'. They are incapable of independant thought therefore 'expired = not valid'. Thats all they can comprehend.

*I bet the good ones get so sick of the the rest of them dragging them all down.

The passport in question doesn't expire until May, I just renewed it a little early and wanted to use that rather than my new one in case I lose it, 'til my driving licence arrives.

I guess it's down to the particular establishment's, though.

No. In official terms, when a passport expires, so does your person. This is why it is imperative to renew passports ASAP.

Are you having a laugh that im not getting at x oclock in the morning?

Either that or you are confusing a passport with a birth certificate.

in answer to the question my mate has been using an old one all year with no trouble, just be friendly and if they take the **** out of the picture play along for their enjoyment and generally they will let you in fine.

I've found that it depends entirely on the bouncer in question. *Most* would be fine with it. and if you got in and get ID'd at the bar the vast majority of bar staff are intelligent enough accept it as proof of ID.

Yes.

Most places should be ok with but no once it runs out thats it when i applied for my provisinal couldnt use my pass port due to it had run out

but pubs ect it shows your age so cant see a problem

i always use my driving license as its smaller to carry around my passport

in theory old passports should still work as it contains your photo and D.O.B and was a legal document, in reality most people probably look at the expired bit and then thinks twice

Hold on a second, Birth certificates have an expiry date? Why did no one tell me this? I haven't renewed mine ever.

An old passport might or might not be acceptable as ID, for a recent job application I handed across my old passport and told them it was out of date but was told it should be fine for security checks. Apparantly it isn't fine so they wanted me to send in my Birth Certificate, they weren't disputing that the passport had been valid but for some reason wanted the Birth Certificate which completely ignores the fact that to get the passport in the first place I had to have said Birth Certificate.
