Got it sorted thanks guys. The only thing is that I am only able to connect to the router from my computer at 72mbps instead of the 150mbps as advertised on the router. What could this be?
Could be wireless card you are using not supporting MIMO (multi in multi out) at home which can double the throughput. Advise caution when using your own router it may be beneficial to change or tatoo the Sky router WAN MAC address onto the TP Link WAN.
Occasionally Sky will scan the MAC addresses of the routers connected at certain locations and determine if you are using unauthorised CPE. Might be worth doing.
Shouldn't be a problem. Sky have said that they won't help you use your own router and won't supply any details but if you get it working they won't stop you. They won't help troubleshoot until you put the sky router back in though so keep it.

This is pretty much what they said to me, I recently moved to SKY (conected yesterday!) and was concerned that I'd read reviews saying the included router (SKY Hub) had poor wifi performance. I asked the person on the phone about using my own kit and was told that while it's not officially allowed and wouldn't be supported they wouldn't be booting anyone who got other equipment working. I did a quick google search to check it was possible to get the details and that set my mind at ease, I'm currently using the SkY hub and finding it good enough.
