Using RAID along side two single non-raid drives

Hi Guys,

Currently, I have a 250GB SSD (OS) and a 2TB HDD (Steam and VMs), both using SATA-III, however the amount of VM's is causing an issue with performance. I'm thinking about buying 4 more 1TB drives purely for VMs to run in RAID-10. I'd like to then run only the four drives in RAID-10 and keep the 2TB for Games and the SSD for OS and applications. Is this even possible? The motherboard does have two SATA controllers, 6 ports on the Intel chip and 4 on the JMicron chip.

Thanks.

Whats probably clobbering your VM performance is contention - VMs trying to access the disk at the same time. Rather than 4 more HDDs, could you get a 500Gb SSD and drop them on that? (assuming they're not supersized VMs).
Also look at splitting your VMs same way as your Desktop - OS for the VMs on SSD, Data for the VMs on HDD.
