Using sky bb router on BT line?

Hello,

I’ve just moved into my girlfriend’s flat having been using sky BB at mine using sky’s netgear wireless adsl modem. The other half has an ageing BT broadband basic connection, which she connects to the net using their Voyager 105 ADSL modem connected to a laptop via a USB cable. When I swapped her modem for my sky wifi one I could connect my PC to the Sky modem as normal but can’t connect to the net. Having looked at the router settings I can’t see an option to type in her username for it to try to connect to the net, is this even possible or can I not use it with BT broadband basic?

I’d like to get wifi in her flat with her existing net connection as there’s no point changing or upgrading as we’re buying a new place and don’t want to get a new contract or change it if we don’t have to.

Any advice much appreciated,

Paul

Sky router has custom firmware with various bits locked down. You'll need to find a way to reflash it with Netgear firmware.

Have a look on the forums at Skyuser.co.uk.

Yeah it depends on whether you have Sky's DG834GT, DG834Gv3 (labelled as a DG934 by Sky) or the Sagem router. All can be re-flashed one way or another. The Netgears require you to download the Netgear Router Recovery Tool and "trick" the Sky firmware into accepting a standard firmware (Netgear or DGTeam). Not sure on the Sagem. Find out which one you have, and as MagicBoy says get over to SkyUser or Google and search for the step-by-step guide. :)
