Using VLC to play DVDs - Anything I should know?

So all you have to do is set the options in ffdshow and then use VLC to play the DVD and it applies the effects? Does ffdshow have to be running?

It didn't seem to work when i just played a DVD, i messed about with gamma and brightness and nothing happened.

Not sure that it works with vlc player.

So is ffdshow still the best way to go with up scaling?

I've tried zoom player and ffdshow and also zoom player and nvidia pure video in the past and they worked pretty good with vmr9 on as well, I used the 2004 sse version of ffdshow but as it seems pretty old now is it best to get the latest and if so where from as it seems the original devs don't update the sourceforge site anymore, also should I change from zoom player to media player classic?

Thanks. :)

The noise reduction really helps clean up the picture when playing back low bitrate material such as recorded tv programs.

I've been playing around with media player classic and ffdshow and have an improved image now but whats the best possible settings and codecs to have and what works best together? I've read some guides but im a little confused now about whats right for pal dvd's as a lot are made for ntsc.

As I understand, VLC player is just a sub project from the MPlayer and MEncoder project, which is absolutely massive.

Might be worth trying MPlayer instead.

The problem i have when playing dvds through VLC is the sound comes out all borked. Its all bittie and distorted as if the sound is being played to load

Since my latest format I've been using VLC. Previously using WMP10 and Nvidia codec. Have to say I'm very impressed with VLC. It's easy to use, performs much better than my old setup and it seems to play everything. Also don't need two or three programs installed to do the same task.

Does VLC media player support multiangle DVDs? I've never been able to work out how to change angle on it and always end up using PowerDVD, which is crap really :/
