using wifi for gaming

Home plugs look great but they rely on the router and computer being on the same circuit which they're often not (as per the case in my house)

Not true.

In the house I'm currently in the router is in the lounge on loop1 and the computer is in the 2nd(three story house) floor on loop3 works fine. I am using a older 85Mbps power line set perfectly.

Either Homeplugs or get some external grade Cat 5/6e and run the cable outside.

External grade Cat cable is weather/UV resistant.

That's how I run mine, but possibly cheaper & easier to use the Homeplugs option

...or if you can't use HomePlug like me (old house, old wiring). CAT5e/6 also supports Gigabit so if you need bandwidth (not exactly needed for gaming)

Wireless for gaming? No way.
