Hi,

I was told you could use the Xbox 360 wired controller on a PC.

I really like the look and feel of the Xbox 360 controllers, so I just wondered how well it'll actually work on the PC? Will games that usually use controllers (almost all apart from FPS) pick it up alright etc.?

Thanks,
Craig.

I think I may have answered my own question... I found an article on the 360 controllers which directed me to the software download on Microsoft.com to let you use the controller on your PC.

I'm guessing games will pick them up pretty easily with the software installed?

Oh, also, does anyone know if the headset will work on the PC if plugged into a controller?

People say don't use the official drivers, go for the XBCD drivers I believe.

I doubt you'll be able to use the headset, though I've not seen anything saying either way.

Yeah , XBCD>official drivers. Not sure if they are bundled together yet , but when I put them on I needed the xbcd drivers + a seperate 360 patch.

As for games picking it up , they should do it automatically although I've found a lot of them seem to get confused if you have two usb controllers plugged in :(.
Need for speed picks up only my joystick and I have to unplug that for the controller to be found by it and bf2 does the opposite. If controller is plugged in , it overides the joystick :(.

Shouldn't be a problem for me then, this will be my first controller. I'm hoping BF2 will let me use pad and mouse at same time... pad for flying and mouse for ground fighting.

What's this separate 360 patch you talk about that you needed??

Thanks,
Craig.

Sweet, sounds brilliant.

Battlefield 2 should arrive tomorrow so maybe I'll just order the xbox controller as well.

I was thinking about just getting a dongle so I could use one of my Xbox 360 controllers with the PC, but then I'd have to keep running up and down the stairs to take the controller from my room to the xbox . The dongles are £20 & I'd need a play and charge kit, I'd also want a dedicated wireless controller for my PC so going wireleess would end up costing about £65 .

Hopefully I'll be able to order the controller some time soon :D

EDIT

Hmm, look what it says on the OcUK description of the wired controller :

- Xbox Live Play - Integrated headset jack for PC headsets and Xbox Live play

Would be cool if that meant I could use our xbox headset on my PC :)

Thanks for the help everyone!
Craig.
