Mr Ripley sounds familiar but ive always played as beermonster back since U1 days thats like 10 years blimey time flies, used to be in clan call AUC and played mainly in UT2003 insta CTF

Should a P4 1.8A with 1GB DDR and a Geforce 2 GTS be lagging in this game at low settings 800x600? :confused:

No, but you can be guaranteed it's your graphics seeing as they're the oldest/most obscure thing (either that or it's network lag).

Well, he might be unKind now, but I used to "know" him since his Assault when he was unSeen or justy plain un, playing for nuCIF then Mi5 and now «d» (divine) i guess.

You must be a pretty good player then if you are all on the same level, since most «d» players always get most opints when we play TAM.
Spielbergo had a total of 14 headshots the other day in a TAM round, and god only knows how many other LG shots hit. It was literally like he had an aimbot running, was that accurate :eek:

@ Beermonster : Ah ok, well I do recognise your isername, I think you were one of the very first people to reply to the thread, something I never thought would take off. I since then have become good friends with some of the guys who replied to the thread, even after they stopped playing the game.

The CPU isnt the best choice, but it will happily play most levels just fine... Only the larger ones, or when lots is happening, will you find it a pain.
1GB is plenty
GFX... Should be ok on low rez... 8x6 might just be pushing the boat a little.

If its worth anything, I have only just upped the slowest PC on my LAN and up until 2 weeks ago, it was an XP1700 and running an MX440 and it ran UT2K4 just fine at 640x480 with no really noticeable lag even on the larger maps... Not that I bothered to really test it fully of course, jus ta 5 minute plonk about and no one moaned if they used it.

I don't have the option of running anything better.

Thing is it only lags noticeably in onslaught or when I'm using bots, which suggests the CPU is the bottleneck.

Edit: my ping was 40-45, can't be network lag. I tried turning down the graphics options and running 640x480, didn't help, which is what makes me think its the CPU.

I played on ut2004://80.69.76.18:8418/ for a bit...

Kind of got my arse kicked a little

Both my mouse ( very laggy ) and keyboard ( Cant dodge ) let me down, but also the fact that Im crap sort of played a role too I recon.

I got to dig out some better gear and have another play.

I will see if I can get Joshua to have a go too... He is 9 years old and has been a UT player since birth ( Not too far from *** truth to be honest ) and he can complete the entire game on GODLIKE
