uTorrent for Mac Beta available

I just got the email as well. Damn your too fast mate. I've been waiting for the beta. Fantastic.
 
Will be testing this out - always loved uTorrent on my PC, will be giving it a whirl when I get home from work and give it a run against Transmission.

Good to see, but seems far too late to the party.

Transmission is great bar the slightly questionable UI, and open source.

They must not be too fussed about the whole "µ" deal. uTorrent.app :)

Just as fast as the Windows version (I tested with some well seeded torrents).

Windows version of uTorrent is faster than any torrent app on Mac (I have tried just about every one), so if you are using some Mac client, time to change tbh. Tramsmission, Tomatao etc are no way near as fast imo.

Benefits, my MBP doesn't heat up when running this, which it does when having to run VMware and Utorrrent for windows. :p

Sounds a bit like voodoo to me. I doubt there's much difference in attainable download speeds between non-broken clients. They're using the same protocol after all. The typical torrent is just a wild west of flaky/overloaded trackers and leeching.

I've seen my connection's download speed maxed out (up to ~2.2 MB/s) on every client I've ever used for Windows or OS X, given suitable 'swarms'.

Should be fine mate, a lot of the viruses and trojans that are written for Windows are usually in the form of exe and bat files which don't work on OS X.

If you are worried about viruses there is a program called ClamXAV which is totally free of charge. I have ran it a handful of times after using torrents and it has found absolutely nowt.
 
Downloaded just the now, UI has changed a bit from the Alpha version but looks good. Will have to do a test download.

I used to think the same mate but from experience uTorrent always just seems to get things down faster. It doesn't make sense. I've heard similar stories from others as well. In my mind at least broadband speed, ISP, and number of seeds/leeches would be the primary factors but they simply aren't the only factors. The client really does make a difference, I would love to hear an explanation. (All my ports are open)
