uTorrent port forwarding problem

Just installed uTorrent and I'm having trouble getting the port open for it. I've set it all up correctly but the uTorrent port checker always fails and tells me that it can't see the port. I've checked it using various port scanning sites and that port is definitely open but http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php always says "An error has occurred! Port 40725 does not appear to be open." I've tried disabling the software firewall and AV as well.

Any ideas? Also, will it actually affect download speeds if the port isn't open?

Assuming you have a firewall on your router on top of your OS firewall.... You'll need to setup port forwarding to your PC's local IP or ensure uPNP is enabled if supported.

It sounds like it's not correctly forwarded, if the port is open but not forwarded correctly you would get this, if you're sure that you've forwarded the port on the router correctly and opened the port properly in your firewall, then try restarting everything (including router) if that still doesn't work try another port.

upnp enabling can be a security risk if you have other machines on your network and cannot account for their level of security or if your lan users are torrent happy at times too and you don't mind them torrenting madly as well as hosting games etc or using other p2p.

Forward the ports, l;eave upnp disabled. It's not hard at all.
