Trying to download some game demos via torrent (net in halls is rubbish, cuts out every few hours or so). Anyway, im getting 0kbs on my download and upload speeds. Im willing to bet the landlords have blocked certain ports cause theyre idiots. If they used the obscene amount of money im paying them to improve the internet, I wouldnt need to torrent.

Anyway, im rambling. Does anyone know of any port numbers that should get me downloading again, or of any ways around this?

Cheers

what type of accommodation are you in? someone else is probably nailing the net with limewire or something if its going slow

ask your landlord to sort it out if they know what they're doing

try..

192.168.1.1 (type that in the address bar in ie or firefox and see what comes up )

if nothing does, then do..

cmd
ipconfig /all, and post the results here

Have done many a time, unfortunatly the staff consists mainly of people who look like they have little to no experience when it comes to "the internet".

Couldnt be bothered to type it all out so ive uploaded an image to here .

Large halls, Pavilions in Lincoln to be precise, its a privately owned thingy. Generally id blame the fact its large halls on the slow speeds, but I can usually torrent at any time of the day at around 60kbs, however in the past few days ive been getting nothing.

The other annoying thing is that theres more people in the Student Village up here and theyre getting awesome speeds, pings of around 5 in CS (40-50 here :() and download speeds of well over 150kbs.

tell them you're not going to pay any more until they sort it out

either they'll kick you out and you can move into a house :p , or they'll sort it out

oh no someone else trying to download in the pavilions. trust me the network there CANNOT handle p2p, notes go out on the network telling the users not to use p2p as it does slow it down.

considering the internet is included in the price of the accomodation, wheras last year it was an optional extra "not paying for it" is not going to change anything.

the student village uses the uni's net connection, although some people are able to file share they do not have access to game from their rooms on the internet as far as i know. pavilions use a huge line from KC which their servers split off to the different rooms. if its something that has happened in the past few days, there's someone probably in the same building as you that has discovered file sharing and has not got their settings correct, causing them to crash the network. it was exactly the same last year, when people went home for summer/easter the net was more usable.

Most filesharings been outlawed there now, and they can game there as im usually on CS or DOD with members of my clan who live in the village.

Update time: I now get about 5 minutes of downloading around 10kbs, but then the download just abruptly cuts out. The file has got the little red down arrow next to it so I assume the connections gone sour or something.

Im probably clutching at straws still but are there any solutions?

Think that means theres a problem with the tracker.

lucky you...i get banned 1st offense through torrent use...either by packet identification or seeing a boat load of encrypted packets coming down the line...2nd offense is a fine etc etc

Ill admit I also use the program for TV related purposes and its killing me that I cant watch the new episode of 24!! :p

15000 seeds in the swarm, 0 connected. I dunno why its being so rubbish all of a sudden, if it is a tracker problem how would I go about fixing it?

Easiest way would be to setup a proxy, if you know how (google should help) and just have all your traffic route through that, beats a lot of crappy filters.

If it was a tracker problem you proberly wouldnt see any seeds, especially that many, sounds like your traffic gets filtered if you ask me.

Could be wrong.

Ill try the proxy method.

I know that recently the landlords have been carrying out "maintainance" on the network so they may have started filtering the traffic, cheers for the help.
