uTorrent

uTorrent running fine here consistently maxing out a gbit connection (well not the connection, more the hard drive write speed lol). I find public trackers no matter how many thousands of seeds are still direly slow. Private trackers >

ultimately, torrenting depends on the upload speeds of your seeders. look at this torrent i'm currently downloading. :p

some git in sweden is feeding me with his 1MB/s upload. :D

Are private trackers from websites where you have to be a member to get access to the torrents.
And then public trackers are from sites where anyone can get access to the torrents?

Yeah, you're right. But the private one you mentioned isn't good example at all. There are far more "elite" ones. :p

That's not a particulary good seed: peer ratio, especially if it's a public tracker.

Indeed. The ratio of peers to seeds is much more important than the total number of seeds. You only have about half as many seeds as peers... most people's upload bandwidth isn't that great, so you're not going to get brilliant speeds, especially on a public tracker.

ensure that not only your firewall but Peer Guardian is allowing the correct IPs.

Also, ensure that the ports you forward apply to the IP that is assigned to your computer... i.e. a big problem my freind had was that he had his ports forwarded on 192.168.1.2 but his computer would occasionaly connect as 192.168.1.4 (this really depends on how may devices you run through your router).

Failing that, i would get a torrent freindly ISP.

I'm amazed that people still use torrents

I would suggest Astraweb + SABnzbd and find the path to enlightenment

Torrents are easier and most importantly free, sure you get free newsservers from pretty much every ISP, mostly they're rubbish though.

If you want to pay you might as well just pay to legitimate software.

But torrents are simply far easier, and it's easier to find rare stuff, while news servers can be a pain to find that rare series from 1962 or so...

Same way ed2k used to be better for rare stuff or smaller downloads, but it's simply rubbish at downloading and is infested with a lot of anti p2p, leechers, etc...
